Premium vinyl flooring makes “mop-ups” easy

...while the new red oak floor in the dining area gives warmth..........and a formal look that sets an elegant tone.

A traditional colonial floor plan...with a separate kitchen and dining room...became a lot more family friendly after removing the wall between them...and brightening the kitchen space with white cabinetry and task oriented lighting.

The engineering background of the design team at Scandinavian Signature Construction Company resulted

in a plan that eliminated “bump out” wall supports...or a dropped ceiling beam to carry loading from above... making the new open plan feel seamless.  It is like the new “hearth room”...created out of the porch/family room...had always been there...and the old kitchen and dining room...well!...you have to ask yourself.......

wasn’t it always just one great space?!

The “new” kitchen has the same features... but...check out the cabinetry with more storage...the much more practical location

of the built-in double oven...the new desk..

...the beautiful wine rack with stemware holder...the Sub-Zero® duo freezer and refrigerator...and the beautiful granite countertop on the expanded island...all accented with greatly improved lighting.

“The devil is in the details” -

the six-burner Wolf® Range... the “pot-filler” with drain sink... the modern track lighting over the island...and...not to mention the built-in speakers noticeable in the ceiling...will make this kitchen a favorite part of this home for many years to come.

Tie-in of the eating area to the main kitchen area was achieved with the glass door upper cabinets...and a new lower storage cabinet...with matching granite top.

Detail...like base...and shoe moulding

...is one part of the attention to quality

...that makes the difference.

...check out that  “Merlot” countertop...

...grab your coffee...your laptop...or chat with a friend...your spouse...your kids...

When a friend recommended that they talk to Scandinavian Signature before giving up...the die was cast.

The design team at Scandinavian Signature Construction Company suggested expanding the kitchen space by eliminating a non-needed second stairway that dumped into the kitchen...and moving a doorway leading from the kitchen to the garage...into a back hallway.

The three slabs of granite required by this project were pattern-matched before cutting..by the in-house design supervisor...giving a sense that all of the pieces for the countertop were actually carved from one huge slab.

The only word that comes close to describing it is...

“Awesome”!

   FIRST CLASS !!!

   Oh...and make a note...

...the cabinetry and wine rack were all custom made by Scandinavian Signature Construction Company

and stain matched to go with the retained cabinetry of the original kitchen.

...and to finish off we’ll add some recessed lights over the workspace.......a couple of pendant accent lights over the peninsula......

...that served as a family room.

That was the scenario for a “wish list” that was a full page long.

The resulting expanded floor space in the kitchen allowed for a full “work space-snack bar” island.......while the reworked entry/exit to the garage enabled replacing an inefficient closet with a dramatic “full-wall floor-to-ceiling” pantry.

...and this “mini makeover”

makes all the difference in the world.

The custom built-in spice cabinet...suggested by Scandinavian Signature Construction Company...

took advantage of an available wall space...and was fabricated using leftover pieces of filler panels.

Nifty!

No matter where I serve my guests......
...It seems they like my kitchen best.

The rounded profile of the countertop on this raised sandwich bar…softens the rectangular shape of this island.

Warm tones...clean...connected...

A “condo” at Walden is the setting for this kitchen which features carefully placed appliances…a galley island…and a tin ceiling.

Scandinavian Signature Construction Company custom built the cabinet for the new island..and reworked the cabinet for the new double oven...to match the existing kitchen cabinetry...saving the homeowner the expense of buying “all new.” The granite slab is “Golden Sun.”

Let’s build an island...

...with a raised sandwich/coffee bar...add a few pendants…and some tall stools...

Pull out a small window

...replace it with an eight

foot slider…

...enjoy life!!!

Yeah!…now the “outdoors” comes “in”...

The original construction had it all...

      a wine rack...

            a double oven...

                  a refrigerator...

                        and a message desk.

There’s Design…and …then there’s Balanced Design!!!

A combination design

of “traditional” and

“open-space” utilized the new Wood Mode® cabinetry to create a defined breakfast nook.

...all while providing an open visual connection

to the sink area...

....between the nook and kitchen.

The soffits over the peninsula and the message desk went away, along with the peninsula itself... bringing the original ten-year old kitchen into the more functional and livable open space concept... making entertaining your friends and family so much more enjoyable.

The new enlarged island handles entertaining the whole family...it’s a great place for a bunch of kids to catch a snack...a terrific place to have a cup of coffee with a friend...and it is a place where more than one big batch of homemade cookies has been rolled out and served with a lot of love.

The corbels supporting the island countertop and

the island bead board panels were all crafted...and color matched.....by Scandinavian Signature Construction Company.

A small kitchen...                                  a seldom used dining room...               a converted “porch addition”...

It started with tearing out a couple of walls to combine the three main rooms...

...and the ceiling in the family room had to go, too.

A stainless steel double oven replaced the old “frig”

...while a wine cooler and wine bar replaced cabinetry of the old kitchen.

The area adjacent to the wine bar now serves as a breakfast area...and opens directly to the beautifully landscaped back yard.

The kitchen caters to two cooks working at the
same time...affording just enough space between
the island...with the large farmer’s sink...and the Wolf® cook top and built in Subzero® freezer/refrigerator on the opposite side.
Black bead-board serves as an accent trim above
the cook top...on the back of the peninsula....and
on the end of the hearth room side of the raised
island bar.
The wood slat ceiling...with recessed lighting.... complements the four artisan pendants over the sandwich bar of the island...and creates a warm, inviting feeling that the whole room enjoys.

The new “hearth room” .... created out of the space that was previously the “converted porch”...

...eliminated two odd-sized windows that flanked the fireplace.

Skylights...with hidden lights in their shaft...add a brightness to the room...and...along with the eyeball  lights...all on rheostats...allow for a full range of mood setting light levels.

Custom made bookcases crafted by Scandinavian Signature Construction Company replaced two odd-sized windows...flanking the fireplace which was refaced with a limestone cap rock...and a new hearth stone.

A doorway...seen at far left...leads

to the new first floor laundry/mud

room...with access to the garage...

or the backyard.

This “wish list” turned into “wishes come true”

A lot of wasted space...old cabinetry...and the proverbial single ceiling light fixture that’s supposed to handle every task center.

Wow!... Let’s get rid of a wall...

refocus the key function areas....

....replace the wallpaper with a painted accent wall... and let’s add some really terrific solid surface countertop space...

And it doesn’t have to break the budget!

The owners of this kitchen had tried to find a design plan that created the look and function they had envisioned for their home for four years...... and were “burned out” after talking to several remodeling companies...without getting any satisfaction.

Dark chocolate on maple...

a custom color blend...

on Candlelight Serenity

Cabinetry®...makes a rich

contrast with the “Blue Eyes” granite countertops...the

stainless steel appliances...

and the red oak hardwood

floor.

And the project bonus-

With the reworking of the stairway and egress to the garage, a powder room that had been tucked into a sloped ceiling location under the main stairway to the second floor, was given its own space off the back hall...is now much more user friendly....and is also accessible to guests enjoying the patio in the backyard.

.......this kitchen went “functional” when the

homeowners agreed to replace a center-hinged

in-swing double patio door. The new out-swing double French door........opens to the covered patio...and no longer complicates traffic flow

around the table...while adding an extra touch

of style.

The granite shown here is “Solarius.”

Eliminating the knee-wall...between the family room and the breakfast nook/ kitchen...blended the three areas into an entertainment friendly open space design.

...take down the wall that

  “separated the kitchen

from everything.”

Rheostat those task and traffic area lights...pendants too! Adjust and set the mood. That island doubles as

a great buffet counter...or extra seats for the kids and their friends... or for the grand kids...if you already have some. Now you’re entertaining...

The built-in Sub-Zero® freezer/refrigerator

is situated for easy access within the primary preparation area...while keeping the double oven accessible...

Yet...it is secondary to the

Thermador® cooktop.

The beautiful clear coat white oak floor gives a “pop” contrast to the cabinetry...and it also connects the kitchen and breakfast nook to the adjacent family room.

Let’s Get Cooking!

...enjoy the view!

Greatly increased cabinet storage...including the pantry wall behind the snack bar........makes this new kitchen a dream come true.

Capturing the space previously dedicated to a kitchen table made the full size island with a raised sandwich bar an absolute natural...and the countertop areas opened up to a new level of work space comfort when the BlancoWave® sink relocated to the island.
